Tropical Smoothie

Your kids will enjoy making this simple Colombian drink.

Sponsored children across Latin America often enjoy fresh fruit at their Compassion centers. Our church partners in Colombia provided this recipe for a guava juice smoothie, but you can substitute any tropical fruit you like when you make it with your family. It makes a great breakfast or after-school snack!

INGREDIENTS (Adult help needed.)

  • 2 large or 7-10 baby guavas, or substitute another tropical fruit
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. water or guava juice

DIRECTIONS

  1. Wash the fruit and peel it if necessary (guava rind is edible and nutritious). Slice the fruit into big chunks.
  1. Put the fruit, sugar, and water or juice in a blender. Blend for 60-90 seconds.
  1. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for a smoothie-like drink. If you’d prefer juice to a smoothie, strain the mixture through a colander before refrigerating. Drink chilled within a few days.
